Michael Gorton, BS EE, MS, Juris Doctorate
Founder and CEO of TelaDoc
A successful entrepreneur, Gorton is the co-founder of TelaDoc Medical Services, an innovative healthcare company that is solving the problems of access to quality care and rising costs for minor medical issues. Gorton has built a national network of advocates and supporters of the TelaDoc model that include the Surgeon General of the United States, former US Secretary of Health and Human Services, and representatives from virtually every major healthcare “think tank.” Under Gorton’s direction, TelaDoc has experienced phenomenal growth and expects to add its millionth member in 2007.
In 1994, Gorton founded Internet Global (iGlobal), the first company in the world to deliver commercial DSL (1996). iGlobal was the beta site and world roll-out partner for Ericsson’s patented VOIP (Phone Doubler) product (1998) and constructed a national VOIP network for long distance service. Under his leadership, the company grew from concept stage to recording $800+K in monthly recurring revenue. In March 2000, Gorton negotiated the sale of the company for $122M.
In 2000, Gorton founded the Texas Acceleration Group, an organization of successful entrepreneurs with a goal to accelerate the growth of early stage companies through mentoring and fund raising. Gorton served as interim CEO for the educational technology company, Whoola; as a mentor for Texas incubator, STARTech; and as a board member for several technology companies. Gorton spent the first twelve years of his career as a manager/engineer for Texas Utilities. Gorton holds degrees in Physics, Engineering, and Law and has served as adjunct professor at Richland College, and LeTourneau University.

Bruce Quinnell, BS, MBA

Mr. Quinnell currently serves on the Board of Directors of TelaDoc
where he is one of the company’s most valuable and trusted advisors. He has served on the Board for three years and as an Advisor/Investor prior to that position.
Quinnell has served in a broad number of roles with various retail and technology companies. He currently serves as a director of Tuesday Morning, Hot Topic and Zoom Systems along with several other
prestigious board and advisory positions including Reading
Is Fundamental (RIF).
Quinnell served as Vice Chairman of the Borders Group from April 1999 to February 2002 and President and Chief Operating Officer from January 1997 to April 1999. Prior to that time, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Walden Book Company, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Pace Membership Warehouse, and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Dollar General Corporation.

James Outland

Mr. Outland has over 18 years of private equity investment, mergers and acquisitions, business development, and sales and marketing leadership experience in both entrepreneurial business ventures and well-established corporations.
Mr. Outland began his career developing an entrepreneurial business within ProServ, Inc., a leader in the sports marketing industry subsequently acquired by SFX and later Clear Channel. He opened a West Coast office and later led the business development for ProServ athletes and properties in the Southeast.
Mr. Outland has also served in various key roles as an Officer for Complete Health Services and United Health Group responsible for sales and business development and as a principal at Momentum Health Services where he specialized in mergers & acquisitions. James has led numerous private equity investments and currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Prism Pointe Technologies in Atlanta, GA, Senior Whole Health in Boston, MA and Mobile Storage in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Outland also serves on the Boards of Comlet Technologies, Bridgeville Trailers and Awarix. In addition, Mr. Outland served as the CEO of Senior Whole Health during its first year of operations. James has been active in civic and charitable organizations having been involved with Junior Achievement, The Leukemia Society, the Birmingham Museum of Arts, and the Birmingham Venture Club where he recently served as 2005 president. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Political Science and a B.F.A. in Advertising.

Henry Dreifus

Henry Dreifus is Founder & CEO of Dreifus Associates Limited, Inc. With over 20 years experience in Secure Identification & Smart Card technologies, he is a Founding Director and Executive Committee member of the Smart Card Industry Association, and has held a number of board positions in the financial and technology industries. Mr. Dreifus has been called upon to present expert testimony to Congress is a published author, an accomplished speaker and a patent holder in smart card technology. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Dreifus received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Washington University, St. Louis.

Bruce Begia, MD

Dr. Begia is president and CEO of Alamo City Medical Group and founder and director of TelaDoc Physician Association. Dr. Begia is the senior partner of Alamo City Medical Group, San Antonio’s largest independent practice. He has built several successful medical companies and associations. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Begia served in the United States Army as Assistant Clinic Director for the Family Care Clinic at Brooks Army Medical Center. Dr. Begia provides the full spectrum of family medicine from pediatrics to geriatrics with special interests in hypertension, diabetes management, preventive medicine for men and women and occupational medicine. Dr. Begia is a leader in the health care system in San Antonio and has had major involvement in the development of health care products with local and worldwide companies. Dr. Begia is considered by many colleagues and companies to be a visionary regarding medicine and medical management.

Samuel Havens, BBA, JD
Former Prudential Division President, TelaDoc Board of Directors
Samuel Havens currently serves as a director and business development catalyst for several leading-edge healthcare technology and services companies. Previously, Mr. Havens served as President of Prudential Health Care, a national healthcare company with over $7 billion in revenue, where he was responsible for all health and dental operations.
While serving as President of Group Operations at Prudential, Mr. Havens led the company to recognition as the first national health plan network accredited by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA). He designed and built the Prudential Research Center – a leader in the development of clinical outcome studies and consumer report cards – and created a joint venture with Rush Presbyterian Hospital to build a joint provider/insurer partnership in the Chicago marketplace. Prudential HealthCare grew to $7 billion of revenue and 16,000 employees in markets throughout the United States. Mr. Havens received his Bachelor’s degree as well as a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University.

Richard Boxer, MD
Medical Liaison to the Board
Dr. Boxer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with honors from both the undergraduate and medical schools. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Health Policy at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Clinical Professor the Department of Surgery/Urology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He has written over 40 scientific articles and chapters for books, won a national award for cancer research, was awarded a Presidential Citation from the American Urological Association for excellence in Urology, patented a medical device and has lectured around the world on treatment for cancer of the prostate gland and urinary tract. He serves as Medical Director of two prostate cancer foundations, is the former Chair of Surgery at St. Michael and Mt. Sinai Hospitals, past president of the Milwaukee Urological Society, and an advisor to Medicare. Dr. Boxer is presently or has been on the Board of Directors of sixteen philanthropic organizations.
In 1997 Doctor Boxer was one of two finalists for the position of Surgeon General of the United States. In 2001 he was one of several finalists for Surgeon General by the George W. Bush Administration (HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson). More than 150 national medical and consumer organizations and national leaders supported him.
In September 1995 Dr. Boxer was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Four operations, seven courses of chemotherapy, and a bone marrow transplant cured the diseases, but also taught him about the other side of health care. Because of his personal understanding of giving and receiving cancer therapy, his personal experience with a disability, his understanding of health policy, and finally his political skills, he is able to see all aspects of the challenges and opportunities for health care in America.

Carl Dickerson
President and CEO, Dickerson Employee Benefits
Carl Dickerson started in the insurance industry in 1965 with New York Life. He started as a small two-man company in 1965 and has built it to a multi-lingual sales force of over 46 employees serving companies around the country from their building near downtown Los Angeles. Carl has proven that much can be accomplished with hard work and a dream, as reflected in the company’s mission statement – “Dickerson Employee Benefits (DEB) was founded on the belief that all people should have equal access to affordable healthcare.” Currently DEB is one of the nation’s largest minority held general agents.
A graduate of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, College of Nuclear Science and US Army College of Emergency Administrative Analysis, Mr. Dickerson began his professional career as a college educator in the field of medicine and health sciences.
In addition to his hard work and success within the insurance industry, Mr. Dickerson is an active community leader holding memberships, directorship and board positions with many businesses and community organizations including the Black Business Association of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Urban League (former First Vice Chair), and Town Hall Los Angeles (current Vice Chair).
