Michael Gorton, BS EE, MS, Juris Doctorate
Founder and CEO of TelaDoc 

A successful entrepreneur, Gorton is the co-founder of TelaDoc Medical Services, an innovative healthcare company that is solving the problems of access to quality care and rising costs for minor medical issues.  Gorton has built a national network of advocates and supporters of the TelaDoc model that include the Surgeon General of the United States, former US Secretary of Health and Human Services, and representatives from virtually every major healthcare “think tank.”  Under Gorton’s direction, TelaDoc has experienced phenomenal growth and expects to add its millionth member in 2007.

In 1994, Gorton founded Internet Global (iGlobal), the first company in the world to deliver commercial DSL (1996). iGlobal was the beta site and world roll-out partner for Ericsson’s patented VOIP (Phone Doubler) product (1998) and constructed a national VOIP network for long distance service.  Under his leadership, the company grew from concept stage to recording $800+K in monthly recurring revenue.  In March 2000, Gorton negotiated the sale of the company for $122M.  

In 2000, Gorton founded the Texas Acceleration Group, an organization of successful entrepreneurs with a goal to accelerate the growth of early stage companies through mentoring and fund raising.  Gorton served as interim CEO for the educational technology company, Whoola; as a mentor for Texas incubator, STARTech; and as a board member for several technology companies.  Gorton spent the first twelve years of his career as a manager/engineer for Texas Utilities.   Gorton holds degrees in Physics, Engineering, and Law and has served as adjunct professor at Richland College, and LeTourneau University.


Bill Giles
BS, CPA - Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Giles is a Tatum Partner with over twenty-five years experience with Fortune 500, NASDAQ, and entrepreneurial companies. He has performed extensive work in financing and controlling the rapid growth of manufacturing, distribution, and high technology entities. His core competencies include accounting, finance, information systems development, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning/business development, SEC reporting, debt, and equity financing.

Giles secured $25 million in private equity funding from Technology Crossover Ventures for SolArc, a leading provider of supply and trade management software for global commodities companies. He restructured a highly leveraged manufacturer/distributor of printer imaging products with manufacturing locations in Missouri, Florida, and Texas by securing additional $3.5 million equity, renegotiated the bank loan, reduced inventory, and revised the business plan. He launched Direct Computer from inception and created a profitable $70 million annual sales company in the computer reseller/service business and sold to The Future Now. He created a detail forecasting model, reviewed cash flow, and positioned for an IPO at Telecom Technologies, a leading supplier of 'softswitch' based solutions. During the engagement the company was successfully acquired by a NASDAQ company for an approximate total earnout price of $714 million.


Shelley Laine
Founder, Executive Vice President HR, Customer Support

Shelley Laine has more than fifteen years of experience in project management and training delivery. She founded and ran 3D Consulting, a successful training and documentation company specializing in the development and delivery of systems, operations, customer service, and call center training. Shelley has developed and customized policy and procedure, training, and support curriculum ranging from large institutions to the start-up company.

Prior to 3D Consulting, Laine was an officer of Performance Solutions Inc. (PSI), working as a project manager, training instructor, facilitator, and course developer for conducting job analysis, developing training materials, on-the-job training, and job aids. In addition, Laine trained and coached trainers on comprehensive curriculums. She has also designed and taught systems, customer service, and sales training for leaders in several industries including financial, call center, and health care. Clients include Cyber Medical Services, Bank One, Compass Bank, ETC Data Services, Synapse, First USA, AmSouth Bank, Community Credit Union, and Texas Capital Bank.


Melinda Benefiel

Customer Relations Manager

Melinda Benefiel is a seasoned call center professional with more than 15 years experience in management.  The bulk of her experience is rooted in the credit card industry where she served as a creative corporate manager.  Her core competencies include expertise in customer relationship management, call center technology, administration, planning, and start-up operations.  As an experienced vendor relations manager, Melinda co-managed two vendors through four sites servicing member calls with support from 900+ agents.  Melinda is a proven leader with the ability to analyze, provide solutions, and motivate staff to action.


Michelle del Carpio
Director of Information Technology

With over 10 years of experience in the IT industry, Michelle brings strong project management and organizational skills to TelaDoc.  She previously served as localization manager, rolling out eBusiness solutions to companies in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Brazil, Austria, Italy, and the Netherlands.  Michelle also has experience in client management and business analysis.

Starting on the development team, Michelle has been with TelaDoc since 2004.  During that time, she formed the TelaDoc IT team and designed the system architecture.  Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Technical Writing from the University of North Texas.  As director of IT, del Carpio is focused on bringing leading edge technology to the company and providing customer focused solutions.


Jeff Gary
Executive Vice President, Business Development

Jeff Gary is a principal of JMG Management Group with over 20 years of healthcare experience. He has provided strategic market knowledge and valuable product diversity to his clients. His core competencies include strategic planning, business development and relationship management.  He provides a deep understanding of the healthcare payer marketplace. Prior to founding JMG, he led the Business Development team at BCE Emergis, a market leader in cost containment with over $150M in revenue. Between 1987 and 1998, he held sales and business development leadership positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee and Humana, Inc.

Mr. Gary successfully secured client relationships with national health plans and third party administrators resulting in over $270 million in cost savings. He secured strategic alliances with best-of-breed vendors and payers resulting in over $80 million in revenue for his respective clients. Mr. Gary earned his degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University.


Fritz Johnson

Manager, Business Development

Fritz Johnson brings robust expertise and a winning track record in managing relationships and business development to his role as Manager of Business Development at TelaDoc. In addition, Fritz is a leader and active participant in TelaDoc's strategic development initiatives, including affiliations with geographically-focused enterprises as well as our public relations firm.

Prior to this appointment, Fritz held positions as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Internet Broadcast Corporation, Chief Sales Officer for Internet Global Services, Vice President of Sales for Privacy, Inc., and Vice President and General Manager at Telephone Communications Inc. In the retail field, he held general management positions at Computer City and Best Buy and was an owner of Nevada Bob's golf shops.

A veteran in the truest sense, Fritz served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps and is the recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Presidential Unit Citation, and numerous other awards and commendations for his military service.


Billy Wade
BA, MIS – VP Operations

Mr. Wade has over 7 years of experience in the healthcare management focused in MIS, Implementation and Operations.  Prior to joining TelaDoc Inc., Mr. Wade was employed by National Care Network, where he was VP of Corporate Strategic Development.  While at NCN he directed strategic product development initiatives that introduced new cost-containment product offerings which supported both the payer and provider marketplace, thereby saving healthcare organizations more than $60 million annually.  Mr. Wade previously held a variety of senior positions with NCN, including Director of Software Development and VP of IT Solutions developing operational enterprise applications, strategic partnerships and acquisition strategies.   Prior to NCN, Mr. Wade held senior IT positions in the aviation and financial marketplace.  Mr. Wade completed a BA in MIS and Marketing from Southern Methodist University.
