Member Fequently Asked Questions

-
Unlike informational-based services and Nurse Lines, TelaDoc has a prior relationship with the member/patient. Therefore, TelaDoc physicians actually diagnose your illness, recommend a therapy, and if appropriate, prescribe medication. TelaDoc has been able to satisfactorily resolve over 90% of the calls for medical care.
-
No. The doctor comes to you via telephone anytime 24/7.
-
Yes. This is one of the great benefits of TelaDoc. Because TelaDoc has a prior relationship with the patient:
- Prescriptions can be phoned in to any pharmacy anywhere members happen to be!
- TelaDoc can refill most prescriptions if they are already noted in the patient’s medical history; however, TelaDoc physicians do not write prescriptions for DEA controlled substances.
- TelaDoc physicians have each member’s normal pharmacy telephone information and can phone in prescriptions quickly
-
If you are concerned about a specific drug, we can escalate your call and have someone contact you before scheduling a consult. Each consult is unique; therefore, the doctor is the one who decides whether or not to prescribe medication. TelaDoc offers prescriptions for a wide range of products that deliver direct medicinal value. These include, but are not limited to, drug classes like antibiotics and antihistamines. Acute prescriptions and convenience refills may also be obtained in cases where a member is in transition to a new insurance plan or doctor.
TelaDoc does not issue prescriptions for DEA controlled substances. This includes narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and anabolic steroids among others. Although many of these drugs have useful and legitimate medical purposes, the need to regulate access to these controlled substances and prevent their diversion for illegal purposes prompts TelaDoc’s policy.
-
Yes. The medical history disclosure is stored on TelaDoc’s HIPAA compliant, encrypted central server. Before calling the patient, the doctor reviews the medical history with specific focus on chronic illnesses, current medications, allergies and any changes in the patient’s medical condition since the last contact.
-
After enrolling as a member, you can request a consult one of two ways.
- Call 1.800.TelaDoc any time night or day from any phone. Our call center representative will request your medical consult with a TelaDoc physician.
- Simply log on to your account at www.TelaDoc.com and click the Schedule a Consult link.
-
In all cases a physician will call you back within 3 hours. When you call the TelaDoc 800 number, our call center representative will request your medical consult with a TelaDoc physician currently on call. Our average call back time is under an hour, but all calls will be answered within 3 hours or the consult is free.
-
As often as needed. Your membership allows you to call any time you have a medical issue.
-
Anyone 12 years of age or older can become a TelaDoc member. We accept the elderly and those with pre-existing or chronic illnesses. You, and all of your legal family members, regardless of family size, can become TelaDoc members.
-
Yes. TelaDoc accepts patients with pre-existing conditions. These members pay the same monthly membership fee and doctor consult fees as everyone else. There is NO extra charge for patients with pre-existing conditions.
-
This service is unrelated to your medical insurance. TelaDoc is NOT insurance. Rather, it is a new value-added medical benefit, designed for today’s family, which compliments current coverage. Though the TelaDoc consult fee is comparable to the price of a co-pay, you must check with your health plan to see if it is a covered expense.
The TelaDoc CMS 1500 receipt (claim form) can be submitted and applied against your deductible if applicable. Also, the price of a TelaDoc consult is a qualified expense that can be paid for with your HSA, FSA or HRA account.
-
No. TelaDoc does not write referrals for specific doctors or labs.
-
Yes. As is often the case, primary care physicians refer patients to specialists. In those instances patients are still obligated to pay the physician consultation fee. TelaDoc’s policy is just the same. You must pay for the doctor’s time.
