  • Patient has an acute, episodic, non-emergency medical issue
  • Patient cannot reach PCP
  • It is after doctor’s normal hours of operation
  • Patient on vacation or a business trip
  • Patient needs an acute or convenience prescription

When is a Telephone Medical Consult Not Appropriate?

  • PATIENT IS UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE
  • Patient has a serious, severe medical problem
  • Medical problem is complicated or critical
  • Patient requests narcotics, long term, lifestyle or DEA controlled drugs
