Teladoc Receives 2011 Adaptive Business Leaders Organization’s Innovations in Healthcare ABBY Award

DALLAS, Oct. 04, 2011 – Teladoc, the nation’s first and largest telehealth provider, received the Adaptive Business Leaders Organization’s (ABL) 2011 Innovations in Healthcare℠ ABBY Award in the “Innovative Approach to the Delivery of Healthcare” category. Winners of the international competition were announced at the 13th Annual Innovation in Healthcare Awards event held in Long Beach, Calif., Sept. 28. The ABBY Awards honor companies that have developed ways to lower the cost of providing quality healthcare through medical or information technologies, or innovative approaches to the delivery of healthcare. Past winners include Specialist on Call and Dakim.

“This award reflects Teladoc’s position at the forefront of the telehealth industry and that Teladoc is helping to solve some of the greatest challenges facing healthcare today, including cost and access,” said Jason Gorevic, Teladoc’s chief executive officer. “It is a distinct honor to be recognized among this prestigious field of healthcare innovators. At Teladoc, we are committed to seeking out innovative technologies that make a positive impact on the healthcare system.”

The recipients of the prominent award were determined by ABL members as well attendees of the ceremony, which included executives from healthcare providers, information, medical and biotechnology, wellness and professional services companies. Other finalists for the “Innovative Approach to the Delivery of Healthcare” award include Care Meridian and Partners in Care Foundation.

Teladoc serves as a complement to non-emergency primary medicine by providing accessible, high-quality care at an affordable cost to health plans, employers, unions, associations. Teladoc connects members to U.S. board-certified physicians 24/7 via telephone or secure online video. Physicians treat a variety of conditions and prescribe medication if medically appropriate. Consultations can be arranged within an average of 22 minutes for $38 or less, including a review of a patient’s electronic health record which can be shared with the patient’s primary care physician upon approval.

“Teladoc has totally reframed the meaning of ‘house calls,’ when patients can connect with a board-certified physician from their home, office or cell phone for just $38,” said ABL President Mimi Grant. “That’s why ABL’s Innovations in Healthcare audience enthusiastically voted for Teladoc to receive the ABBY Award. Recognizing innovative technologies and approaches that hold the promise of dramatically reducing the cost of quality healthcare is what ABL’s ABBY Awards are all about.”
