FAQs
Can I get a prescription?
Teladoc Health does not guarantee prescriptions. It is up to the doctor to recommend the best treatment. Teladoc Health doctors do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by any federal (e.g., DEA) or state agency or other drugs that may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. View the current list of DEA-controlled substances.
Can you prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss?
Some Teladoc Health clinicians can prescribe GLP-1 medications when clinically appropriate and permitted by state regulations. You must be an established Primary Care member or a Condition Management member enrolled in condition care. GLP-1 medications (including refills) are not available through Teladoc Health General Medical or Nutrition.
How are prescriptions sent to the pharmacy?
Teladoc Health does not dispense prescription drugs. If the doctor prescribes medication, it is submitted electronically or by phone to the pharmacy of your choice.
Will I be contacted by Teladoc Health when my prescription is ready?
Teladoc Health will automatically notify you through email and the message center when your prescription is submitted. We suggest contacting your selected pharmacy to confirm when your prescription will be ready.
Can you prescribe antibiotics?
Yes, however, any prescription of antibiotics must be accurate and professional. We understand the negative consequences that may result from over-prescribing, and thus our doctors will only write prescriptions in instances where such medication is absolutely necessary.
Antibiotics aren’t always the right treatment. Antibiotics do not fight infections caused by viruses like colds, flu, most sore throats, bronchitis, and many sinus and ear infections. Instead, the doctor may provide a treatment plan that includes symptom relief for viral infections. Learn more on the CDC website
