To help reduce your risk of getting a cold this summer, check out these simple and effective health tips:1

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. Hand sanitizers can also help keep your hands clean.
  2. Don’t touch your face with dirty hands. If you haven’t had a chance to clean your hands, resist the urge to touch your eyes, nose and mouth.
  3. The common cold is spread through close contact, so if you’re with someone who’s sick, avoid physical contact, like hugging or kissing.

If you already have a summer cold, avoid spreading it to others by:2

  • Staying home
  • Covering your coughs and sneezes with tissues
  • Washing your hands immediately after touching your nose and mouth
  • Disinfecting commonly touched items in your home, such as toys, tables and door knobs
